As with my outdoor work, I like chance elements that I happen upon, and often this starts the idea for a painting.  I trust when something catches my eye because of some physical property such as how it reflects light, its color or its shape, for example.  But often through the act of painting I later realize a deeper significance the objects represent, and find I gain insight into my subconscious thoughts from the process of making the work.
